Maybe. But as written above multiple times. Because imho I think it’s disrespectful
So basically, you pay 300€, then Ironman races are free ?
Pro’s have to pay for their pro license within the federation (costs likely vary federation to federation; I think it was Skipper who “switched” federations to USAT to pay a cheaper fee or whatever he tried to do a few years back) and then have to pay a 1 time fee to IM to be within the pro series that lets them “register for free” after that.
Ok, I think I saw it was 1500€ for IM. Makes sense economically if you do at least 2 full and 2 half each year.
That’s just for the National federation License. Ironman has their own license which you can either get for the whole year or single races. Single race is 250 Dollars, Year 1500 I believe. You have no extra entry fee. The requirements for the ironman license are the national license and an anti doping course I believe.
Challenge entry fees for Pros depend on individual events and world ranking status.
A lot of independent pro races can have no entry fee at all.
Seems like a genuinely nice person who worked his butt off in a ‘real’ job. Saved his money and decided to go all in.
At 70 years old he won’t wonder if he could have made it as a pro.
I wish him all the luck
Thank goodness you weren’t the coach for the US Olympic Hockey Team in 1980…. cause the Miracle On ice would’ve never happened!
Matti Weitz is the underdog in the arena, his face marred by dust and sweat and blood.
Des Linden won the Boston Marathon in 2018 with a 2:39 marathon time!
There’s a long list of unlikely champions who persevered and due to unseen circumstances took gold. But the only way to win it is to be in it.
My own personal story: I did a local half Ironman a half dozen times typically finishing just under 6 hours and usually outside the top 10 in my AG. Then in 2021 there was a storm at the race and winds were non-stop 30mph. Bikes were blowing off the transition racks left and right. Me and 66 other athletes braved the crazy conditions and my 5:22 time got me 4th OVERALL!! I was 2 minutes off the OA Podium and I got 4th by passing a guy 15 years younger than me at the line. But yeah, I have had half Ironmans that went badly and took me over 7 hours to complete. Thankfully I didn’t give up after those otherwise I would’ve never had my 4th place OA finish. And after that half, I had so much confidence and trained so well I went to Eagleman 70.3 and got my first sub 5 hour finish and 5th in my AG qualifying for 70.3 worlds.
KUDOS to Matti Weitz the underdog fighting the good fight!!! Ironman’s motto is: Anything is Possible. I’m glad I believe in miracles and have experienced some small ones in my triathlon career and hope more are to come, but only if I toe the line. Miracles don’t happen when you’re sitting on the sidelines or if you quit before you even start.
Don’t you think that Kristian Blummenfelt feels disrespected by your self-belief?? You should really consider his feelings about this
Jkjk that’s an awesome story! I hope to have a similar story one day myself. My friends probably thought I was delusional saying I would go sub-5 this year but they supported me nonetheless. I think it will happen for me in the next 2 years but then again, I’m over 30 and washed up lol
Mostly right but 70.3 it is $250 & Full is $500. UK does not charge a pro fee or anything like. Just need normal British Triathlon Membership.
As I understand it, Joe got annoyed with British Triathlon for not giving free entry and GB kit for the World Long distance champs. Which to be fair, they do outline before you sign up. But also some subsidy would be nice.
I think you should subscribe then and click the bell. You will enjoy his videos. Just wouldn’t take any advice.
Full disclosure, I was subscribed to Matti a while back and then unsubscribed because the videos were a little long for my liking. But funny, I did watch his YouTube video just last night where he preps for IMAZ and he showed a good road for local time trialing because it’s on a dead end so it has limited traffic, and when I do an AZ training camp in the future I might use that tip.
The whole thing smells of click-bait influencer putting forth a persona/approach designed to get followers. I would never watch myself. It all seems unethical to me but I wouldn’t say it’s disrespectful to other elite triathletes. I suppose it’s theoretically possible that he believes what he says about becoming world champion, but that seems far too delusional at this stage in his life for belief. Much more likely it’s about the views and $$.
he ist the temu version of lionel sanders….
Yikes. I did the World Long Distance Championships as a pro in 1995. British Triathlon paid the entry fee and the kit. Quite a lot of kit actually. And some meals. I paid the flight and the hotel.
That is competitive sport for you. Dreams, reality, disappointment, hope.
I get it. I think your title change is very respectful.
speaking of the first and best discipline in triathlon. ill quarter back a change in his program from here.
i watched some of his videos and this is his 1500m LCM splits from 8 months ago in a speed suit. 613, 635 and 648 for a 19:28. that is a 36 second drop off over the 3 splits. but doing a recent set of 4x100 on 110 yards holding 55s.
this guy has some top end but not enough steady state.
dm me and i will provide the secrets at a $.
As @pier87 said to me in the other thread, who?
You guys all got your point across. He’s read the thread and posted a comment about all your hatred. Just another reason people choosing the Pro side don’t come on here but that’s the Slowtwitch life.
No hatred tbh, just not 100% blind positivity. I think points came across in this thread. When you say you’re gonna be World Champion then get overtaken by AG men & women in every race..well, you can also expect some criticism. Take it or call it hate and be hurt by it, his choice.
