YouTube influencer, future champ, delusional, disrespectful, what is it?

Anyone watching his videos on YouTube?

I need to vent a little. I mean he makes all of it public so yeah..

I think his thing with becoming World Champion is 1) completely delusional and 2) very disrespectful to other pros.

Delusional because he’s SO far away from even winning amateur races. Or like he says in this video above “3:20 pace, little over race pace". I mean wtf? His pb for a marathon I think is like 3:25h or whatever, what are you even doing?

And disrespectful imho because it’s just not giving enough credits to the pros in WC contention.

Just my rant, sorry

I stopped following him for that very reason.

Like, come on, there’s amateur faster than you sometimes. Be real man.

You can go pro, sure. But from there to hope contending a win on the biggest stages with people that have been in the sport ever since they were kids it’s just nuts.

I think not even sometimes. Always. I think he barely had a few sub 9h finishes. I mean good times, sure but just embarrassing and disrespectful to say he will be world champion.

Also his running.. i mean he looks so “heavy" when running. He’s never gonna be a good runner, let alone triathlete

Example of an athlete who needs to hand in his ‘Pro’ card pronto. Or maybe he suffers a lot of injuries.
Why would you watch his you-tube?

Very good question😂

I’m sitting there, watching, fuming. So many people in the comments seem to ask for advice. I mean jeez, just do the opposite of what he’s doing.

But yeah, one of the “pros" where you really ask yourself..why?!

If you are going to sit there and fume over every idiot that posts BS on the internets, you’re going to be very busy. I’m sure there are better things to do…

I met Matti back in 2017 during my first IM. Ran majority of my marathon with him. He actually helped me pace it early on and kept me in check. Still my fastest IM run to date. Super nice dude and I wish him the best in the pro field or whatever his dreams entail.

I’ve watched a few. I think he’s fine. Sure he will most likely not win the world championship but it’s interesting to see how a non top tier pro trains and thinks. That’s the beauty of YouTube, not only the top guy or girl can share their stuff. I also like when fast amateurs share their training as well. No need to hate on him.

For someone who complains about Lionel being brought into every thread you sure spend a lot of time bringing Lionel into every thread…

Btw. he finished another awesome pro race in 10:08h with a blazing run in 4:39h. Kudos for finishing though. Maybe time to be more humble

Just doing my bit to keep him relevant.

I met him at a race many years ago before his YouTube, Matti is actually a really nice guy.

Kudos to him for quitting everything to live his dream.

Not doubting he’s a nice guy. Just saying he’s completely delusional and disrespectful.

If it’s his dream/ ambition to become World Champion… why squash that? Live and let live.

Just avoid his content if it’s rage baiting you. Looks like there are plenty of people who enjoy it and engage with it and that’s a good thing in my book.

Well, to me that whole “journey to becoming world champion" sounds like a scam and I don’t like scams. I mean this guy thinks he simply can win against Geens, Blummenfelt, Stornes, Iden, Laidlow,… with a 3:25h marathon PB and a weak swim/bike? That’s disrespectful to what those are capable of.

This attitude will attract critics. And here I am, being critical

I think this guy has serious issues. On the other hand, he doesn’t harm anybody. If he can afford it, why not be completely delusional for a while.

I think you guys are misreading his intentions. He means in the way that people sometimes state their objectives publicly in a way to force themselves to work towards it.

Personally I do think his videos would be more relatable if he used a different angle and I actually gave him this feedback.
