It’s incredible how some of these online influencers live rent free in y’all’s heads
Agree. But I don’t like bs
I’m sure we’ve achieved one thing here, driving up his recent views!
Maybe I’m a covert operative anyway and that was my goal.
Tbh believe it or not but I think he deserves more viewership because he’s transparent and his videos are sometimes made quite nice. Not the part where he’s filming himself and everybody else in a gym, please stop, this is not okay.
I’m sure he’s glad he dropped $300 on his Metaspeed Rays. Otherwise he’d run 4:45…..
I watched the video again and ngl it’s a lot worse (or funnier, depends) when knowing he goes on to do a 10:08h IM, 47./48 PROs, slower than 114 AG men, slower than 28 AG women. Especially love the run part at 4:20min how he explains why his high heart rate is good. He might literally be just a worse version of Lionel Sanders tbh
He’s just giving tips over tips on how to do things while training like 20-30h per week professionally coming up with those results. I know I’m harsh but yeah.. self-confidence can also be too high sometimes.
Why IM doesn’t create their own pro standard doesn’t really make sense other then they don’t care / want to do the work. But in a system where there is no standard for what a pro is, it certainly doesn’t make sense for IM to not step in and “correct” it.
How could a guy like this get a pro card ???
I mean, he’s a fast AG, but very far from the really fast AGers, and a world appart from a real pro. Fk me, my paces are similar and I’m not even in the top 10 of my AG in France. I would never consider that I have what it takes to be a pro, even a slow one, unless I start shaving at least an hour from my IM pr. Even then I would never have the nerves to claim a chance at being a WC.
Pure click bait/troll in my opinion
His videos were entertaining, but it’s kind of sad now.
He made a big deal about changing coaches to get the right structure and just absolutely tanks his first race. Will he go full LS and immediately change it up again?
I guess we could see if a German on here can explain how DTU dishes out ‘pro cards’.
Here are his amateur results - he went pino in 2023:

There is no standard among federations for what qualifies and doesn’t qualify for a pro card. It’s why it makes very ittle sense for IM to not step in and create their own standard, but again that requires work on their end. Federations obviously need to have their own standards because a global standard wouldn’t really work for developing and non developed countries, and you add in the differences in itu and non-draft, it can get sorta complicated pretty quickly. Which is why IM creating their own policy would work and multisport already has precedenct of culling pro’s for whatever standard they want.
In Germany anyone can get a pro card, you have to apply, send in some Paperwork and pay 300€. Part of that paperwork is also an Health Examination and a Weekly schedule for NADA as you become part of a testpool.
For shortcourse they obviously have very strict criteria in order to enter races and become a part of Funding, but with non Olympic Racing you can do whatever the f you want.
IM has stated that they want to limit variability in their rulebook against the World Triathlon one, which means its the responsibilities of the NGB’s to determine who is / is not eligible for a professional license and IM will happily take their registration money.
As you correctly state, there’s absolutely zero reason for IM to get involved in that determination. Whether they then want to create a tiering system of who can, say, enter one of the Pro Series races based on performance is entirely a seperate matter.
IM doesn’t want to do the work that it would take to determine who is or isn’t a pro. That’s the reason they’ll never do that, not because they are afraid of going against some WT ruling, cus they all the time set their own rules/precedents. And mind you, totally understand why IM doesn’t want to add expenses to basically what they see isn’t a problem. But it easily could be done where IM has it’s own standard of what is defined as a pro, there is already precedence in multisport, just follow that lead; but again it requires work/manpower/investment into that process; so duh they won’t.
I can see this being a reasonable mechanism for making sure the IM Pro Series has quality fields excluding BoP athletes (who can interfere with the WPro race, even with a 10 minute start). Not straightforward, but if IM can create a performance pool schema for KQ which satisfies everyone, they can do the impossible. Sifting out wannabes (from the main races) is small beer.
I don’t understand the comments saying this is bs or a scam or even disrespectful.
Isn’t it well known that pretty much every champion in every sport has to have the “delusion” that they will be the best in order to eventually become the best? Everyone who eventually won Kona was at some point prior not good enough to win Kona.
I genuinely don’t think you can be the best without first believing you can be the best. With that said, I’m not convinced this dude will get there, but I don’t think he deserves hate for having an ambitious goal
He’s 36 years old, not 12…He’s barely a sub 9 guy, he’s gonna be 7:20h with 64 or what?
I’ve watched some of his videos. As others have said, he seems really genuine and nice.
All I can think of is how my stomach would drop if I signs in to slow twitch the day after a race went not my way and saw a thread with “Tommy Nelson” as the title…and a bunch of people dumping on me. I get it, he a pro and exposing himself, blah blah, just seems a little misdirected.
Did you read my comment? I agree that he probably won’t make it to the top. I’m just saying it’s a prerequisite to think you’ll make it to the top and that everyone’s delusional until they win
It’s probably worth reflecting on why a happy, kind dude living his dream and sharing it with the world is so upsetting to you
Hope it’s fuel for the fire. Don’t want to simply dump on him tbh but it’s one thing to expose yourself and another going pro with 35 or whatever, talking in his videos like he knows everything what to do and he will become World Champion. It’s gonna polarize and like I said, will attract critics.
I mean so many people have a triathlon channel that I wouldn’t think of criticizing. This one invites criticism.
