My daughter encouraged my wife and me into joining her in the game. Good for a little chuckle during the Christmas season.
The rules are simple:
The 1st Rule
The objective is to go as long as possible without hearing WHAM’s Christmas classic; “Last Christmas”.
The 2nd Rule
The game starts on December 1st, and finishes at the end of December 24th.
Use your local timezone, if you’d like.
(Yes, we’re European heathens)
The 3rd Rule
Only the original version applies. Enjoy the ?#!$&%! out of remixes and covers.
The 4th Rule
You’re out as soon as you recognise the song.
Bonus Rule
Post on social media with the #whamageddon hashtag when you get hit.
PvP?
While we can’t stop you from deliberately sending your friends to Whamhalla, the intention is that this is a survival game. Not a Battle Royale. So … don’t be a dick, mkay?
My wife and I were watching Ted Lasso (yep, I’m a little late to the game but what a great show) the Christmas episode in season 2 last night when they had a group doing a cover… the look we gave each other by the third note was one of realization of that was Last Christmas, followed oh that’s a cover, so we are still alive!

Ms Tostig and I were flicking through '80’s videos on YouTube Wednesday night (Dec 1st). Played it.
(It has almost 642 million views, and it’s worth it just to see everyone’s hair styles.)
Here you go. Get it over right now!
My family is a big fan of the show Psych. They released their third movie a couple of weeks ago in which Curt Smith plays a part. The movie ends with a video that is not a cover of* Last Christmas *called *Previous Holiday. *They nailed the style.
I’d rather play JOSEFELICIANOGEDDON or MARIAHCAREYGEDDON. Of course, the former will be virtually impossible to win in just a few days, and you’re probably out already.

Then you need to play WHAMHunter:
where players get a point each time they hear it. This allows enjoyment of Christmas music and not having to worry when walking through a shopping centre or when the radio is playing in the car. The only rule is hearing it must be organic (i.e. don’t have it on repeat).
I am not a x-mas music fan and normally listen to spotify. While wrapping presents last night I randomly clicked on christmas jazz, so safe there - but that was the first xmas music of the season. In addition, I have not been in a single public space with music playing since the start of December. We are in the midst of a remodel and are using our living room as storage and never bothered to move the TV - so safe there as well.
To be honest, while I recall hearing about this last year, forgot it was a thing, but would also be safe for any of the other music ones as well.
It is not clear to me if I should be proud of this or a little concerned…
