Nice 2025 worlds thread

I am with you just say no wetsuit so it’s a simple decision.

The rain didn’t come…. Yet so maybe it holds over 23.9.

3pm ironman app update had temp at 24.9C with final announcements set for 5:15am. One advantage of starting so late is thats my alarm time!

24.5 is already a wetsuit swim now.
Can’t imagine it wouldn’t be one tomorrow morning.

Sorry! Made edit. The update at 3pm was 24.9C. So not wetsuit legal (yet)

I do not want a wetsuit as it will so hot right on cusp and I have a rib injury so want more freedom in water. First time in 25 years i have ever said PLEASE no wetsuit!

I’m kind of wishing I had brought wetsuit shorts.

Agree with this. If you go to Cannes go to Vesuvio. Amazing restaurant. Sit on the patio.

@rhys just wanted to send you good vibes and great to see some of our old guard still slugging away at the full IM distance. I’d say “tailwinds” but in Nice, I think ideally the lunar gravitation field pulls you upwards as I suspect like most of us, your numerators in the watts per kilo equation went down and denominator got a bit larger (if it has not big congrats) !!!

My real question is if they even need that many calories. They are doing an 8 hrs day, and most of the effort even for them is in a fat burning zone. At some point, all the digesting in itself moves the athlete out of the fat burning zone because you’re otherwise operating in fat burning, but add in the cardio bpm that digestion takes up and we’re in the carb burning zone !!!

It seems like 100 grams per hour should be plenty for an 8 hrs race, if you assume they have 2 hrs of glycogen stores already bound to the muscles with water before even starting then how much more is needed. Even at 3:31 per km which is Blu’s IM pace for the last two races, he’s nowhere near full octane carb burning and should be still burning a ton of fat fuel?

Some napkins calculations: 300 W on the bike burns at least 1080 kcals/hour. 160 grams of carbs gives 640 kcal. I.e. to stay in equilibrium (to not slowly lose glycogen, you want to have them on the run) you still need to burn 40% of energy from fat. 60/40 proportions doesn’t sound that strange to me (although i’m not an expert).

Haven’t paid much attention all week but has anyone dropped out yet? We typically get a few last minute DNS’s.

Harry Palmer’s back is tweaked and MvR took a spill on his bike, but no DNS’ yet.

Interesting to see they are doing actual checks on hydration systems (at least for the pros). Did they check AGers with the same rigor? Did they also check shoes?

Doubtful on #1, pros are always going to get more scrutinized, before, during, and after an event. As to #2, highly likely after this most recent episode. Question should be would they have if that event never happened?? I’ll go with probably not…

Do you have to pay to watch the replay on Outside TV in the US? I’m on the West Coast, so the whole race basically takes place while I’m sleeping. I know I can stream it for free, but perhaps the replay requires a paid subscription?

I think you do need an Outside account to watch a replay.

I’m in the US with no VPN on right now and this YT link is showing up, but no idea if it will work for the race.

Officially a non-wetsuit swim (25.3C/77.5F) Good luck out there everyone! Enjoy the day!

Don’t know about hydration but I saw someone who looked to be getting checked on extension length. They seemed serious about that.

Curious: I believe ironmanlive. com streaming coverage began in 2001 (introduced to me by Bryan Pellegrin who also introduced me to this site the same year)

Who else here has watch every live streaming?

:muscle:t3::smiling_face_with_tear: been a busy week here in Nice and ST and PTN crews have been gracious with sharing their lodging. Let’s get this race started!
