have a great race. Yes to Nice being a better course and vacation destination to Kona. But I also speak French so that tips the scales.
There are some very cold currents that flow in certain areas, but those areas are the exception. The full distance swim does go across them though.
There was a rain and hail storm later in the day on the practice swim. It has been cooler and then.
I’d bet on no wetsuit, but I’m certain if they sampled in a few places on the swim course they could find plenty cold enough water. Most would not be though.
Just watched the Kristen YouTube .
Not sure if he is trolling or not but he said
180 g of carbs per hour !!! That’s 720 calories per hr.
We will see if he can do that ? Maybe he is accounting for a puke loss of 1000 during the ride so it ends up being 500 per hour .
Not that mad for the front guys at the moment. Cam said he did 200g/hr at Ironman Texas.
There is no way at that intensity they are digesting all that amount. Most guys the first 2 hours will be 300-350 watts.
Would like to actually see post race how much of each bottle was consumed??!
Pro cyclists are also up to around 200 g/hr on big breakaway days when long hours of sustained power are required.
Pro Press Conference ‘live’
Athletes from about 17 minutes in.
I am doing some lab test around this at the moment.
4 lab tests of 3hr (90% LT1 for 2hr / 3x 5min 90% LT2 & 15min 90% LT1 / then 120% FPT till failure)
With different carb rates 30g/hr, 90g/hr, 120g/hr & 150g/hr. Gas and blood taken every 20 mins.
Should be interesting to see would is actually being used & if GI issues present.
Works out as 270NP total for me or between IM & 70.3 power
I would assume the harder you go the less you can actually process as you are putting your resources into power production not digestion and absorption.
We all ready have had this information with basic lactate testing. You can’t ask the body to do everything at full effort for too long .
Hope you share your info .
A Fighting Chance
Rudy Von Berg, Kristian Blummenfelt, Gustav Iden, Casper Stornes, Daniel Baekkegard and Patrick Lange
Training on the Queen K in the days before the event is insane, so dangerous getting close passed by all the big trucks. Nice is cycling paradise (one you are out of town).
Really looking forward to your results!
How do you sit Matthew Marquardt in a press conference before the biggest race and not ask him about the cramping that’s been troubling him the whole year? They literally discussed him “coming from behind” in races but didn’t mention the cause, or ask about the status.
How do you not ask Blummenfelt if he’s overcooking it, and how self-coaching is going?
/Rant over
It would have been good to do that
Did you see Mathew discuss what caused the cramping which he seems to have said was only in the swim?
I believe he said it was something about a nerve in his upper leg
He is getting a tense build up in his lower front spine during the swim, for sure. Very odd usually people get tense build up in the back spine during the swim hence the calf’s and hamstrings Vs his odd quad behaviour. He does have massive quads and maybe just guessing thinks it’s wise to over kick before exiting the swim to warm up the legs and hence some tension builds that doesn’t happen in training or the pool.
Although I don’t get cramps and walk out over those rocks getting out of the Mediterranean looking like mattes post swim so we might not be able to tell this race .
lower front spine
His core?!
Not core. Core is a term to explain hip to shoulders which contains so much more once you go there.
More hip flexor and psoas.
Quad cramps are usually only biking when people use way to easy a gear and pedal a lot of air with quick drops.
More hip flexor and psoas.
Makes way more sense. Still wouldn’t say it’s front of spine.
They attach to the front pelvis and spine, so how are they not increase tension on the front of the spine .
I have a VPN ready so on Sunday morning I can wake up and start watching the race from the beginning on YouTube. I just find it so frustrating that the Outside ap does not allow you to join while the race is live and immediately go back to the start of the coverage and then the replay takes hours to be available.
