Now this will be fun to follow
thatβs awesome, i am doing it for the first time, maybe iβll meet him! now i need to go as fast as humanely possible ![]()
I am jealous. Id love to do the race as part of an extended bike tour but Id have to find a couple of backpackers in Patagonia to help crew for me first.![]()
Iβve made some Chilean triathlete friends over the last few years. Iβm lucky to have one of them Sherpa me! Will report back on how it went.
Ali starts tomorrow, with Josh Amberger (retirement race) and Rosie Wild (GB pro) too.
Cool that Ali and Josh get to race together.
Go boys.

Surprised Josh put so much time into Ali on the swim, but Ali did say he hasnβt been swimming much recently, so maybe it was to be expected.
Brownlee in third at the last split.
Amberger into second.
Rosie Wild in #5: going well.
Stephen Derrett leading comfortably. He was an amateur last year BUT.
Won Ironman Copenhagen 2024 in 7:54 - then the second fastest Ironman time ever by an amateur (with a 2:39 marathon). No pro race in 2024 but FG-F won in 7:27 this year.
Thatβs a ridiculous time for the run by the winner. Itβs a tough, trail marathon, unless they changed the course
Big fan of Rosie Wild.
Wild finished overall #4!

I tried to stay awake to follow the race all the way through but no luck. Am looking forward to the race video.
Aliβs post is describing a time before all the gear and gadgets took over and became the most important part of the sport.
During this trip he seems to have discovered the pure joy of the challenge and the beauty of sharing that challenge with a small group of fellow adventurers without the need for all the bells and whistles.
This is why I started doing Ultra-triβs and Bikepacking trips.
And finally the awards..
